Obama to Host African Summit in August 2014

According to White House Spokesman, Jay Carney,the U.S. President Barack Obama, will host an African Summit in Washington between August 5 and 6.

Carney said the summit would strengthen trade and investment between the U.S. and the continent and also highlight the U.S. commitment to security and democracy in Africa.

It would also advance the administration's focus on trade and investment in Africa, and highlight America's commitment to Africa's security, its democratic development and its people.

Carney said even though it was not yet clear which African leaders would be invited to the summit, President Obama was looking forward to welcoming leaders from across the African continent to the summit.
