Nigeria, best investment destination worldwide - Ambassador

Nigeria's Ambassador to Singapore, Her Excellency, Nonye Rajis-Okpara, has described Nigeria as the world's choice destination for doing business.

Rajis-Okpara, during a visit to the Chief Executive Officer of Keppel Corporation, Tong Chong Heong, urged the company to quickly take advantage of the clement business environment in Nigeria by investing in the country.

The ambassador, who visited the company as a follow up to the Nigeria-Singapore Business Investment Forum 2013, which took place at the Resort World Sentosa, Singapore, from October 28 to 30, 2013, said there are lots of investment opportunities for Keppel Offshore and Marine, a company under Keppel Corporation.

Keppel Corporation is a Singaporean company that specialises in marine, property and infrastructure businesses.
With a 32 per cent rise in net profit in the third quarter of 2013, Keppel Corporation is one of the largest conglomerates in Singapore and one of the world's largest builders of offshore oil rigs?.

Rajis-Okpara said Nigeria is seeking cooperation with companies in Singapore in the areas of housing and urban development; maritime and port development; and education in the areas of technical and vocational training.


She informed Heong of the investment opportunities in Nigeria, adding that the country remains the new frontier and the preferred destination for foreign investment.

She added that the time was overdue for Keppel to maintain its presence in Nigeria.

She stated that there are opportunities in marine, infrastructure development and in particular waste treatment, power and housing.

She urged Keppel to take advantage of the favourable business environment and invest.

Rajis-Okpara noted that the success of Tolaram, Olam groups and Indorama in Nigeria remains a testimony of the benefits of investing in Nigeria.

?Heong assured the Ambassador that Keppel was interested in doing Business in Nigeria.

He further explained that the company has started asking why it has not yet entered into Nigeria or any of the African country in view of the existing investment opportunities.

He accepted the invitation from Rajis-Okpara to lead a team from Keppel to visit Nigeria to meet with the relevant government officials in the Ministries of Transport, Ports Authority, Housing and Power, the Slok Group and other companies.

The visit by the Keppel team is planned for early December 2013.
