US assures shutdown won’t affect funding to Africa

Assistant Secretary of State for Africa,
Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield
The United States has given the assurance that the shutdown of government will not affect its commitment to Africa.

The US government shutdown last week after the two houses of Congress failed to agree on a new budget. This is the first shutdown in 17 years.

Assistant Secretary of State for Africa, Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield says the US hopes the shutdown is short-lived and it is not likely thee will be a difference in what the country offers in Africa on the development front.

Meanwhile, America’s biggest banks are reported to be stockpiling extra cash in their ATMs, amid fears that the shutdown and the threat of a US default will induce a sudden panic among their customers.

Major Banks have increased the amount of funds by around a third.
