NSE index up 2.4% today, hits 19.4% growth in Q1

Transactions on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed Tuesday on a positive note with most blue chip stocks dominating the gainers' table.
 
Market capitalisation appreciated by 2.4 per cent or N23billion from N10,733 trillion Thursday to N10,994 trillion today, while 39 stocks advanced, 17 declined.
 
The All-share index went up 2.4 per cent from 33,536.25 Thursday to 34, 351.87 today, while turnover of 291,264,516 million shares worth N4.1 billion exchanged hands in 5,316 deals.
 
Eternal led the gainers’ table with a gain of N0.33 kobo to close at N3.63 kobo per share, Okomu gained N7.25 kobo to close at N79.75 kobo per share and Africa Prudential gained N0.16 kobo to close at N1.78 kobo per share.

On the flip side, Phama Deko led the chart by shedding N0.08 kobo to close at N0.76kobo per share, NAHCO shed N0.74 per share to close at N6.75 kobo per share and Live Stock shed N0.26 kobo per share to close at N2.41 kobo per share.
 
Meanwhile Transaction on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange closed first quarter on a positive note as market capitalisation of the listed equities rose by N1.76 trillion from N8.974 trillion recorded at the beginning of the year to N10.733 trillion at the close of activities on Thursday.
 
The All-Share Index also rose by 5,457.44 basis points or 19.4 per cent to close the quarter at 33,536.25 basis points, up from 28,078.81 points recorded at the beginning of the year.
 
The NSE-30 index, which measures the performance of the top 30 stocks on the bourse, gained 19.97 per cent in the same period to close at 1,602.88 basis points, while the NSE Banking Index rose by 21.41 per cent in the same period to close at 412.35 basis points.
 
The NSE Insurance Index recorded the highest appreciation as it gained 30.42 per cent to close the quarter at 154.53 basis points.
